Ajax beats Excelsior 3-0; PSV stays top of Dutch Eredivisie
AMSTERDAM (AP) - Poland striker Arek Milik scored either side of halftime Sunday and Davy Klaassen celebrated his birthday with a goal as Ajax beat Excelsior Rotterdam 3-0 to keep pressure on Eredivisie leader PSV Eindhoven.
PSV ensured it would stay at least one point clear of Ajax after round 24 by comfortably beating Heracles Almelo 2-0 Saturday night. Davy Proepper and Gaston Pereiro scored first-half goals, allowing Phillip Cocu's team to relax after the break with an eye on Wednesday's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
PSV totally dominated the first half and would have been further ahead with more clinical finishing.
Cocu said, "It's a shame we could not convert more chances, but I'm very impressed by my players' effort."
