Car enthusiasts hunt for deals, rare item at St. Charles swap meet

Kevin Christianson still owns the two GM muscle cars he had in high school decades ago. On Sunday, he added some pieces to bring one of them back to those early days.

Christianson joined hundreds of fellow auto enthusiasts and dozens of vendors at the 21st annual Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Cadillac Swap Meet and Car Corral at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles.

The Spring Grove resident took the opportunity to buy a set of original GM Rally rims to replace the steel wheels on his 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass,

"I just always wanted to dress it up a bit," he said.

The 36,000-square-foot Prairie Events Center building was filled with everything from rusty exhaust systems to model car toys and ready-for-restoration full-sized Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Buicks.

The Chicagoland Chapter Buick Club of America hosted the event. They are a nonprofit membership corporation dedicated to the preservation and restoration of vehicles built by the Buick Motor Division of General Motors Corporation.

Len Lulich of Chicago heard about the 21st annual Buick Club of America swap meet at the last minute and didn't have time to bring his car, so he wore a sign advertising it's sale Sunday at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles. "I've had a couple bites," he said. John Starks/jstarks@dailyherald.com
