Newcastle beats Wellington 3-2 in A-League match

SYDNEY (AP) - Former Denmark international Morten Nordstrand scored twice in his first starting appearance for Newcastle to give the Jets a 3-2 win over the Wellington Phoenix in the A-League on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Nordstrand scored in the 53rd and 73rd minutes, his first goals for Newcastle in his fourth appearance, as the Jets came back from a 2-1 deficit at halftime.

Wellington led at halftime after two goals from Hamish Watson, who left his side a man down from the 71st after incurring a second yellow card.

The win lifted eighth-placed Newcastle to 23 points, while Wellington, which had its future in the A-League assured for at least the next four years on Friday, remained ninth on 19.
