Police: Photos taken of Cary-Grove students in boys locker room

Charges are pending against two juveniles accused of taking cellphone photos of Cary-Grove High School students in the boys locker room without their knowledge, police said.

High school staff members notified Cary police of the situation earlier this week. The photos did not show any nudity but depicted several students in various stages of undress, police said.

The students in the photos could not be identified because of the quality and angle of the photos, Deputy Chief Jim Fillmore said.

"You can't even tell exactly who it was, but you can tell where it was," he said.

Police don't believe any of the photos were disseminated on social media or to anyone beyond those involved. Three students were sharing it among themselves through their cellphones, Fillmore said.

Authorities are seeking petitions against two juvenile offenders. Charges have yet to be determined by the McHenry County state's attorney's office.

"Some elements of the crime are a misdemeanor, some of them are a felony," Fillmore said. "We're taking them very seriously. That's why we are seeking the petitions because we want something done."

Crystal Lake High School District 155 assisted with the investigation.

Police and district officials are reminding parents to talk about the appropriate use of cellphones when in school.
