Former Buffalo Grove cop admonished for violating bond

A former Buffalo Grove police officer accused of giving out important police information for personal gain was admonished by a Lake County judge Thursday for failing an alcohol Breathalyzer test.

Lauren Greenwood, 27, of Mundelein, registered a .076 blood alcohol content on a Breathalyzer during a visit by pretrial service officers Feb. 11, officials said.

The reading means Greenwood violated bond conditions set by a Lake County judge Dec. 15 after she was charged with two counts of felony official misconduct.

Greenwood said the alcohol test results were false, because she had just brushed her teeth and used mouthwash.

“Maybe, in the future, you should not use mouthwash,” Lake County Judge Daniel Shanes told Greenwood in court.

She was not charged with a crime, but she was warned she'd be taken into custody if she continued to violate her bond. She remains free from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of her $250,000 bail.

Greenwood was charged Dec. 15 after officials discovered she accessed a police database and gave information to an unauthorized individual for personal gain, authorities said. She faces 3 to 7 years in prison if she's found guilty at trial. She also was charged with single misdemeanor counts of possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia during that arrest.

Greenwood voluntarily resigned her position with the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

She is due back in court March 16.
