Batavia firefighters get 4 percent raises

Batavia's full-time firefighters, paramedics and lieutenants will get raises from 2 to 4 percent, under a new three-year contract.

The contract, which the city council approved Monday, is retroactive to Jan 1, 2015.

The pay raises are 4 percent the first year; 3.5 percent in 2016; 2 percent Jan. 1, 2017; and 2 percent beginning July 1, 2017.

It sets starting pay for a firefighter/paramedic at $60,777 this year. The maximum pay, for a person who has worked for the city six years, will be $87,180 by the end of 2017.

Lieutenants start at $87,989 this year, and top out at $101,891 at the two-year mark.

Batavia has 18 full-time firefighters and paramedics, and six lieutenants.

They were represented by the International Association of Firefighters.
