Wheeling man charged with breaking mother's leg

A 35-year-old Wheeling man who prosecutors say broke his mother's leg in two places was ordered held on $80,000 bail Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Eduard Spektor placed his knee on the right leg of his 67-year-old mother, then twisted her right foot and broke her leg in two places. The victim required surgery, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Rebecca Wiggers.

Spektor was charged with aggravated battery to a senior and aggravated domestic battery, felonies that carry a maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison. Probation is also available.

According to Wiggers, Wheeling police have been called to the family's home nine times since 2006, five times in 2015 alone.

Spektor next appears in court on March 3.
