Walkathon to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity

Each year, on the last Saturday of February, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley hosts a Walkathon at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee. This year's event will be 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. Check-in is at 7:30 a.m.

This is the one big fundraising event each year where everyone can get involved in Habitat's mission, including youth. Whether you're in elementary, middle, or high school, college, or beyond, this is a chance to help Habitat families in a big way. Come out as an individual, with your friends and family, or get a whole group involved through a club, sports team, church youth group, corporation, or any other organization.

Each year, they choose an area to direct funds raised at the event. When they begin construction on the 100th home in spring 2016, it will be across the street from the first home, built in 1991. Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is excited to come full circle while continuing to make a difference in the community. The goal is to raise $4,000 to fund the kitchen cabinets, which are at the heart of the home.

Participants are sponsored by either donations or pledges per lap around the mall (each lap equals approximately 3/4 of a mile). Each walker can register and fundraise online, or directly with Volunteer and Outreach Manager Jenny Ackerman. Groups should have a leader setup a team page.

Registration will close at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, one week before the walk. At this time, all walkers must be registered on FirstGiving, or directly through Jenny. For hard copies of our registration sheets, sponsorship forms/envelopes, and safety waivers, contact Jenny Ackerman, Volunteer & Outreach Manager, at jenny.ackerman@habitatnfv.org or (847) 836-1432.
