Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd collecting food this Lent

The members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1111 N. Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, plan to do something to ease hunger in their community and worldwide.

Instead of just collecting food items on the second Sunday of the month, they will be gathering canned goods the entire 40 days of Lent.

Additionally, Lenten Suppers are held each Wednesday during Lent at 6:30 p.m. before the 7:30 p.m. church service. An offering is taken at each of these dinners. This year, the proceeds will go to World Hunger, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

During Holy Week, members will gather and deliver the donations to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry, and even help stock the shelves.

Rather than giving up something during Lent, these parishioners will be adding food and sustenance to folks they may never meet, but who like them are God's children.

God said, "Feed my children" Good Shepherd is planning to do just that.
