Montini opens with big win

Montini opened the Class 4A girls basketball postseason with a 55-27 victory against Conant at the Class 4A Elk Grove regional on Tuesday night.

Senior guard Lea Kerstein scored 17 points to lead the way. Junior guard Claudia Kunzer added 13 points.

"It was nice to get out and play after six days off," Montini coach Jason Nichols said. "We played one game in 10 days, so we were a little rusty, but we'll get better as we proceed, hopefully."

The Broncos will play Glenbard East at 7 p.m. Friday in the regional final.
