Music notes: Give in to the Villains

<h3 class="briefHead">Villainous engagement</h3>

Even villains like to rock. For almost five years, V Is For Villains has been showing the nation its version of what "world domination" would sound like. The Des Plaines and Elgin-based electronic industrial rock band formed by brothers Nicholas (Mr. Agitator) and Jonathon (Fallon Flynn) Santiago has been playing revered Chicago venues such as Metro and the House of Blues, as well as bringing down the house at conventions across the country. With their comic book personas, stylish and energetic stage shows and costumes lovingly crafted by musician and seamstress Analise Rahn (Vex), the trio's highly-stylized performances have been taking over eardrums (and then the world?) wherever they play. Catch the show at Bottom Lounge when they team up with (the diabolical) Vent to Atmosphere, (the probably evil) Lowcountry and (the more than likely nefarious) Rotten Mouth. Bottom Lounge, 1375 W Lake St., Chicago. $10. (312) 666-6775 or bottomlounge.com. 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19

<h3 class="briefHead">Mojo Mardi Gras bash</h3>

Mojo and the Bayou Gypsies channel the fun and fiesty southern Louisiana traditions of Cajun and Zydeco music in a powerful stage show, packed with fiery fiddle and raucous accordion performances. They bring all the punch of a Mardi Gras party to St. Charles' Arcada Theatre Friday, so come prepared to celebrate. Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. $25-$39. (888) 695-0888 or oshows.com. 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19

<h3 class="briefHead">Pound of Flesh at Penny Road</h3>

Former Ministry member Darrell James and his electronic hard rock band Pound of Flesh is coming back to town as part of Penny Road Pub's Industry Night. Pound of Flesh has been a while in the making, as James, Steven McIntosh, Al Stehman and Michael X. Christian took their time perfecting their sound, but their recent album, "Refills," showcases that attention to detail, with remixes of tracks off 2014's "Pills." Catch them as they play with Radio Creeps, Grainshifter and Deadnation. Penny Road Pub, 545 Penny Road, Barrington. $7. (847) 428-0562 or pennyroadpub.com. 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20
