Algonquin accepting proposals to buy, move historic Franke House
Algonquin is accepting proposals for the purchase and refurbishment of a historic downtown home. To make way for future downtown development, however, the buyer would be required to remove the Franke House from the corner of Route 62 and Harrison Street and relocate it to an entirely new property. "It's been in such a high-profile location for so long that people quickly identify it as one of our downtown properties," said Community Development Director Russ Farnum. Will the next top Westminster dog be from the suburbs?
Beginning tonight, suburban residents can root for local canines in the Westminster Kennel Club dog show's coveted Best in Show competition. Eight dogs from the suburbs are headed to the show in New York. There, they must get through the Best of Breed and Best of Group competitions Monday and Tuesday before being considered for the top prize. The Best in Show dog is crowned late Tuesday. CNBC will have today's coverage of the hound, toy, non-sporting and herding groups from 7 to 10 p.m. USA Network will have coverage of sporting, working, terrier groups and Best in Show on Tuesday. Sheriff: "Person of interest" in custody after Burlington Twp. man found dead
A "person of interest" is in custody after a Burlington Township man was found dead in his home early yesterday, officials said. Kane County sheriff's deputies found evidence indicating a struggle may have occurred inside the residence, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The public is not in danger, officials said, and authorities are not searching for any other suspects. Full story.
Crash victim was musician, former honor roll student from suburbs
A 24-year-old musician and former honor roll student at Wauconda High School was killed Saturday when his car went off the road and hit two large trees in South Barrington. Yesterday, Heidi Osterhout called her nephew a "great kid" who was adored by his family. Dieter Moreno, of an unincorporated area near Island Lake, played guitar for a metal band called As History Repeats and had studied biology at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. Full story.

The Blackhawks will be without do-it-all forward Marian Hossa for at least a week. The team yesterday placed Hossa on injured reserve, on which he must stay for seven days, and recalled Vincent Hinostroza from Rockford. Bryant, West win NBA All-Star Game
Kobe Bryant exited the All-Star Game for the final time Sunday to watch Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry wrap things up with 3-pointers. Bryant said his All-Star Game goodbye and the next generation of the West's best sent him off a winner, rolling to a record-setting 196-173 victory over the East on Sunday night. Full story.
