2016 Poetry Contest Winners

Lombard Service League

Five young poets were the guests of honor at the Feb. 11th meeting of the Lombard Service League and were among the many 4th and 5th graders living in or attending a school in Lombard. The contest is sponsored by the International General Federation of Women's Clubs. The theme this year was "Having a Ball".

Seated from left to right are first place winner, Liliana S. Olsen - "My Talk with the Moon", second place Nicole McCombs (photograph) - "Having a Ball", third place Ava Amato - "A Board Game" and honorable mentions went to Gabrielle Walton - "Music" and Wardah Fazil - "Having a Ball".

Standing are Barb Madigan, Jane Plonka and Sally Steketee of the Lombard Service League and Mr. Gehm, Mrs. Bruce and Miss Webb, the wonderful teachers of these talented children. In addition to the individual medals, prizes were donated by the York Theater, Lombard Roller Rink, Enchanted Castle and Oberweis Ice Cream.

Olsen's poem has been submitted to the GFWC Fifth District (DuPage County) competition for further advancement.
