SRACLC Crusaders win basketball tourney

Congratulations to the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County's Crusaders-Red team on their back-to-back wins in the Special Olympics District Tournament.
On Sunday, Jan. 24, SRACLC traveled to Warren High School for a doubleheader that earned them a gold medal and a spot at State Games.
SRACLC defeated the NWSRA Green Lightning 46-32 in the first game. Lake Zurich's Sean Cosgrove led the offense with 32 points and 15 rebounds. The star of the defense was Kelly Corbin of Hawthorn Woods, who played an aggressive game, grabbing three steals and eight rebounds. A win against the Green Lightning sent the Crusaders to the championship game with high spirits.
The championship game was a hard battle between the SRACLC Crusaders and NWSRA Blue Lightning. The Crusaders played tough all the way to the end, winning 36-24. Sean Cosgrove added another 24 points and 10 rebounds. Logan Pfiefer of Lake Zurich played great defensively and Kelly Corbin took care of eight assists.
The SRACLC Crusaders-Red team earned a coveted spot to compete at the Special Olympics State Tournament March 11-13 in Bloomington-Normal. During this three-day tournament, the SRACLC Crusaders will play teams from around the state.
The SRACLC provides community-based therapeutic recreation services to individuals with special needs and their families. In addition to Special Olympics sports, SRACLC also has many other programs available, starting at ages 3 and older. SRACLC offers camps, special events, weekly programs, and much more.
