The Bartlett Library integrates new technology into collection
Video streaming is now available for checkout at the Bartlett Library in the form of VUDU Sparks.
VUDU Sparks are thumb drives that contain 50 movies and numerous television series that the Bartlett library has to offer in its collection. In order to use the devices, a patron must have Wi-Fi at home and a television with an HDMI port.
When a patron checks out a VUDU Spark, he will get a pouch that contains a VUDU Spark thumb drive, remote control and a micro USB power cord. Titles that are on the devices include "22 Jump Street," "Still Alice," "Shawn the Sheep Movie" and more.
How it works: Patrons will plug the VUDU Spark into the TV's HDMI port, plug the micro USB power cord in the VUDU Spark and a USB port on the TV, then change the TV's input to HDMI.
It is at this point that patrons connect to the Wi-Fi in their homes.
Once a Wi-Fi network is chosen, the VUDU Spark will remember that specified network. However, if it is so desired, patrons can access the settings to switch networks whenever they want.
"We have high hopes for the VUDU Sparks since streaming is the direction that movies and television series have moved in," Adult and Technical Services Manager Mary Jane O'Brien said. "We just put them out for the patrons, and two of them were already taken on the same day."
The VUDU Sparks are available for Bartlett Public Library District residents to enjoy, and can be checked out for the duration of a week. Currently, they have four, but are in the process of obtaining more so that a greater number of patrons will be able to enjoy them.
