Police: Two boys charged in Elgin armed robbery

Two juveniles have been charged in a Jan. 25 armed robbery in Elgin, police said Thursday night.

According to a news release, police responded about 7:50 p.m. to a convenience store on the 700 block of Walnut Avenue. A boy wearing a mask had displayed a handgun and demanded cash.

The store clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money, and the robber fled. No one was injured.

Elgin detectives later identified a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy as being involved in the crime, the news release said. Both were charged with robbery and aggravated robbery with a firearm and are being held at the Kane County Youth Home in Geneva.
