Antioch's Duehr nets Daily Herald girls basketball MVP honor
Antioch senior guard Alexis Duehr has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her performances in a pair of recent girls basketball victories.
Alexis Duehr, Antioch: The senior guard is heating up at the right time. After scoring a season-high 20 points (four 3-pointers) to help the Sequoits clinch the North Suburban Prairie Division title with a 63-36 win over Lakes, she poured in 29 points in a 63-39 win at Round Lake. She sank nine 3-pointers, making her first 8 shots, 7 of which were 3s.
Brianna Lewis, Fremd: Lewis helped Fremd clinch a seventh straight Mid-Suburban West title with two impressive wins. The 5-foot-3 senior guard collected 17 points, 6 assists and 5 steals in an 80-26 win over Barrington and came back with 11 points, 7 assists and 3 steals in an 83-22 win over Schaumburg.
Hannah Vitkus, St. Charles East: The Saints enjoyed a 2-0 week thanks in large part to this 5-foot-11 senior forward. Vitkus led St. Charles East with 15 points in a 71-36 victory over Elgin, then followed the following night with 12 points and 10 rebounds helping the Saints knock off rival St. Charles North, 46-43.
Antwainette Walker, St. Francis: The 5-foot-10 sophomore followed a 10-point outing in a rout of Wheaton Academy with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists in an overtime victory against Glenbard West. She wrapped up the week by leading the Spartans to another victory, this one in the GCAC Tournament against St. Ignatius, with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.
