Veterans can enter Creative Arts Festival
The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center will hold its annual Veterans Creative Arts Festival March 10 at the College of Lake County to highlight the artwork, poetry and musical talents of area veterans.
Veterans enrolled for care at any of Lovell FHCC's facilities are encouraged to enter in art, performance and writing categories. Art categories include painting; sculpture; drawing; photography; wood, leather and model kits; and pottery.
Performance categories include dance (including wheelchair dance), drama (including comedy), solo and group vocal and instrumental acts, vocal original compositions, and special recognition. Veterans also may submit creative writing entries.
The deadline is Feb. 19. For submissions and to get more information, contact Tricia Stewart at (224) 610-4201 or tricia.stewart@va.gov; or Elizabeth La Combe, (224) 610-5886 or Elizabeth.lacombe@va.gov.
Local artists, musicians and writers will judge the creative entries and determine places in each category. The first-place winning pieces will be eligible to advance to the national level, where they will compete with entries submitted by veterans from other Department of Veterans Affairs facilities around the country.
The festival provides veterans the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression in art and performance and to gain recognition. The Lovell FHCC festival will take place from 1-3 p.m., March 10 in the C Wing Conference Center and Auditorium at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.
The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival will take place Oct. 10-17 in Jackson, Mississippi. For more information on the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, go to www.va.gov/opa/speceven/caf/index.asp.
