Hill Street Blues ahead of its time
In Sunday's paper on the USA Today Life section they had an article the entertainment flash back on the best police drama ever Hill Street Blues. The things they mention about cops having flaws just like anyone of us, however, it should've been mentioned that 35 years later the more things change, the more things stay the same. (The exception of the cars and clothing styles and telephones, etc.)
The social issues, gangs, the politicking by police chiefs (Fletcher Daniels) changing scores so the force of senior sergeants and lieutenants match the racial make up of the precincts (like Chicago now). All I can say is this show was prescient, the writing, and acting was spot on, way ahead of it's time.
Now H & I carries this show again and I'm hooked again on it. This has been often imitated, but never again will it be truly duplicated (you can only catch "lightening in a bottle" once in a lifetime).
