Ancient Chinese secret: Mahjong can help those with mild dementia

Area residents are invited to drop in on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 2 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. to play the ancient Chinese game Mahjong at The Barrington White House, 145 W. Main Street, Barrington.

Mahjong uses colorful tile pieces that display unique Chinese characters and symbols and stimulates memory while teaching strategy. Some studies are showing that the age-old game may help people suffering from mild dementia.

The Barrington Area Council on Aging is hosting the program. Coffee and refreshments are provided and a $1 donation is suggested.
