Aging southern Indiana aquatic center to get overhaul
CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana aquatic center built two decades ago will be closed during the upcoming summer season because a long overdue multi-million-dollar renovation is taking longer than expected.
Clarksville's Family Aquatic Center opened in 1995 and it's now showing its age. City officials began assessing what improvements were needed to make it nicer for visitors even before a pipe break closed it for several days last summer.
Family Aquatic Center spokesman Ken Conklin tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Kentucky (http://bit.ly/1JiIqRT ) the ongoing upgrade will cost an estimated $3.5 million to $4 million.
He says the most notable change to the center in the Ohio River city a few miles north of Louisville, Kentucky, will be the addition of a large splash pad that will be unique to southern Indiana.
