Rauner memo criticizes Chicago State's track record
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A member of Gov. Bruce Rauner's staff is criticizing Chicago State University's appeals for financial help amid Illinois' budget stalemate.
Rauner deputy chief of staff Richard Goldberg sent General Assembly members a memo Wednesday that recounted Chicago State's history of financial mismanagement. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the memo.
Leaders at the predominantly black state university on Chicago's South Side say that in March it will run out of money.
Goldberg's memo cites an extensive history of problems at Chicago State noted in state audits and elsewhere.
A Goldberg memo earlier this month criticized what he called waste and cronyism in higher education.
University presidents this week pushed the governor and lawmakers to pass a budget to avoid doing permanent harm to the schools.
