Pedestrian struck and killed near Antioch Wal-Mart

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Monday evening in Antioch near Wal-Mart, the Lake County coroner's office said.

The crash happened about 5:15 p.m. across the street from Wal-Mart, 475 E. Route 173, officials said. A man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said.

"It appears that the individual was crossing the street form north to south from Wal-Mart when he was struck by a vehicle," Portillo said.

Route 173 remains closed while Antioch police continue to investigate. An autopsy is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Portillo said.
