Waukegan Township holds annual Dreamers' Breakfast

Waukegan Township will celebrate its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "Remembering the Dream" Breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 18.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

The public is invited to reflect on the great leader. The Martin Luther King Jr. Dreamers' Breakfast will take place at the Milan Banquet Hall. Last year's celebratory event of Dr. King's legacy was the largest celebration in the township's history, with the King Day Celebration receiving more than 400 attendees.

The event's keynote speaker will be Dr. Boyce Watkins. In addition to publishing scholarly articles on finance and investing, Watkins is an advocate for education, economic empowerment and social justice, and he has made regular appearances in various national media outlets.

Also speaking will be the Rev. Eugene Roberson from First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. There will be a special tribute to reflect on the life of Nelson Mandela. Entertainment will be provided by The Remedy, The Chosen, and the dance troupe ALATS Company from Sign of The Dove church.

Waukegan Township will present the Drum Major award and recognition honoring distinguished individuals who have long been "Dream Makers" in their own right. Honorees include:

• Alpha Bah, Zion Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
