Palatine man charged with sexually abusing girl he met online

A Palatine man was ordered held on $200,000 bail Wednesday on charges he sexually abused a teenage girl he met through a social networking site.

Aden Flores-Cano, 28, began an online correspondence with the then-15-year-old girl last year, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

On May 11, he asked her to visit him at his apartment near the 1300 block of Ports of Call. The teen told school officials she had a doctor's appointment and checked herself out of school, Shin said.

She took a cab to Flores-Cano's home where they engaged in a sexual activity, after which she returned to school, Shin said.

The girl told her family several months later.

Flores-Cano, who authorities say knew the girl was under 16, was arrested Jan. 12. If convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, he faces up to seven years in prison. Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered him to have no contact with the girl, no contact with anyone younger than 18 and to refrain from accessing social media.

Flores-Cano next appears in court on Feb. 4.
