Huntley Community Radio ready to start new programs
The 2015 holiday season is over and it's back to work. As we begin our new year of community broadcasting, we hope it'll be a happy, healthy one for you and your family.
The volunteers with Huntley Community Radio have been working on developing new shows, and here's a preview of a couple of them scheduled to begin in February or March. Check www.HuntleyRadio.com for dates and time details.
"Protecting What Matters" is hosted by principal Elder Law Attorney Linda Strohschein from the Strohschein Law Group. This monthly half-hour show will deal with elder law topics such as estate planning, long term care planning, guardianships, estate and trust administration, probate and more.
After 22 years as a continuing education instructor at McHenry Community College, Diane Wielzen, artist and musician, brings her many talents to us in "Blues You Can Use." While she has extensive background in all the arts, Diane will be taking us on a journey through the Mississippi River Delta, following the trail of the blues. As we wind our way north into Chicago, where the blues became electrified, we will meet the artists and innovators of this genre.
We are also working with the McHenry County Department of Health in developing a new half-hour program providing information on its many services. Did you know that the health department offers a variety of free clinics to the public - hearing and vision screenings for children, immunizations, flu/pneumonia clinics and more?
We're excited about another new show under construction - "Radio Theater of the Air." It's going to be ready in just a few months and will feature a full cast with sound effects and everything.
And I'd like to remind you to listen to some of the following newly presented shows.
• "Vet Net," hosted by Jeanine Hill-Soldner, started last November. It honors all women and men who have served our country. It can be heard Wednesdays at 5 p.m.
• "Aviation Life" is hosted by Parker Johnston and produced by Jeff Williams. If it flies, this show will talk about it and the art and science of aviation from every angle. Listen Sundays at 12:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 3 p.m.
• "3 Guys Walk into a Bar," "Pop'D" and "Bard's EDM Playhouse" are new shows that also started in November. Again, check our schedule at www.huntleyradio.org.
I hope you will make listening to Huntley Radio a habit. I find that if I turn on 101.5 FM in the morning and just leave it on all day, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the quality and diversity of our station. Remember - it's 101.5 FM
