Clinton aims to drive wedge on guns between Obama, Sanders
WASHINGTON (AP) - Hillary Clinton is intensifying attacks on rival Sen. Bernie Sanders over his gun record, trying to draw a wedge between the liberal Vermont Senator and President Barack Obama.
Sanders' campaign has said there's "no daylight" between him and Obama on the issue of gun control.
But Clinton aides say that's not true and "standing up to the gun lobby is a real difference" is the difference between Obama and Sanders.
Obama vowed in an op-ed released Thursday not to back any candidate, including Democrats, who doesn't support restricting guns.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says if Sanders captures the nomination the president will "have to examine his record." He notes that Sanders said he would reconsider his opposition to legislation granting immunity to gun manufactures after mass shootings.
