Prospect Heights water survey results in, meeting on Saturday
Prospect Heights residents interested in the future of their water system can attend a meeting on the issue Saturday morning.
The city's water committee will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, at the Prospect Heights police station, 14. E. Camp McDonald Road.
Among the topics will be results of a recent survey asking residents about obtaining Lake Michigan water rather than well water.
The first question on the survey was "Would you be in favor of having a reliable, safe city water system?" with answer choices of "yes," "not sure" and "no."
One resident wrote a letter to the editor in the Daily Herald stating that while, of course, all residents want safe water, the survey was worded poorly to get results that would point to what many think will be a more expensive option.
According to the latest city newsletter, the survey was sent to 2,300 people and there were 629 responses, or about 27 percent. Of those, 236 said yes to the first question, while 393 said no or not sure.
City officials said the survey questions were written by the water committee and there will be follow up surveys sent with different questions.
