Man charged in Ogden Dunes fire that killed mother, 94
VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a northwestern Indiana man has been charged with murder and arson in connection with an April fire that killed his 94-year-old mother.
Police in Ogden Dunes say 67-year-old Frederick Fegely was taken into custody without incident as he left his Michigan City home Thursday morning.
The (Munster) Times reports Wanda Maxine Wunder was found in an upstairs bedroom after the early morning fire had been extinguished at her home. The Porter County Coroner's Office ruled her death a homicide in October.
Police said Fegely was able to escape from the fire and alert a neighbor who called 911.
It wasn't clear whether Fegely has an attorney who might comment on the charges against him.
Ogden Dunes is about 10 miles east of Gary.
