Get rid of household chemicals

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County is hosting two free household chemical waste events Saturday, Jan. 9, and Monday, Jan. 25, at its Gurnee facility, 13121 N. Estes St. The event is for Illinois residents only and collections are for residential waste only. Appointments are required to ensure safety and efficiency. Acceptable items to bring to the disposal event include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines and supplements, household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints and varnishes (no latex), as well as other household chemicals.
