Zion-Benton picks up NSC Lake win against LZ
Host Zion-Benton rallied from a 30-29 deficit at halftime to win a North Suburban Lake showdown 61-50 against Lake Zurich on Tuesday in boys basketball.
Lake Zurich fell to 10-4 and 3-1.
North Chicago 78, Antioch 63: Despite getting double-figure scoring out of four players, Antioch dropped a North Suburban Prairie Divsion game to North Chicago. Antioch (6-8, 1-3) was led by Nathan Formella and Trevor Koch, each of whom had 13 points. Nathan Borries added 11 points and Brandon Dade had 10 points.
Lakes 52, Wauconda 39: Kyle Rohr scored a team-best 14 points and Colton Jewell had 9 as the Eagles picked up their first win of the season against North Suburban Prairie competition.
Wauconda (4-7, 1-2) got a game-high 22 points from Jared Stonis, 17 of which came in the second half after the Bulldogs were held to 13 first-half points. Stonis made four 3s and finished 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
Jordan Mercure finished with 8 points for Lakes (6-7, 1-2), 6 of which came in the fourth quarter.
Palatine 51, Vernon Hills 42: Michael Dougherty made three 3s and finished with a game-high 21 points, but it wasn't quite enough as the host Pirates earned a nonconference victory.
Chris Refka had 17 points for Palatine (10-4) and Johnny O'Shea contributed 13. The Pirates pulled away in a close game by outscoring the Cougars (7-8) in the fourth quarter 11-6.
Jack O'Connell added 11 points for Vernon Hills.
