Diane Swonk leaves Mesirow Financial

Diane Swonk, one of the most recognizable faces in economic forecasting, left her post as chief economist at Mesirow Financial.

Swonk, who regularly speaks at economic events throughout the suburbs, has not detailed what she plans to do next. The economist, routinely quoted by major financial press outlets and often appearing on national TV, said on Twitter that she will soon announce exciting new career plans. She suggests following her Twitter feed for details.

Swonk, 53, added that she will miss her colleagues at Mesirow Financial, where she has worked since 2004. The economist, known for easy-to-understand analysis, is planning to again share her forecast Jan. 19 at the Executives Club Economic Outlook in Chicago.

Mesirow Financial, with offices in Bannockburn, made an announcement on its website about Swonk's departure. "I want to thank Diane and her team for their ongoing excellence in providing Mesirow Financial with top-rate economic analysis and for helping to give the company public positioning," said Chairman and CEO Richard S. Price. "Her insightful and knowledgeable interpretation of economic activity and her thoughtful and often clever writing about economics attracted a worldwide following. We wish her and her team the best," he said. Three Mesirow employees left with Swonk on Jan. 1.

Swonk joined Mesirow after nearly 20 years with Bank One Corp, and its corporate predecessors, namely the legacy First Chicago.
