Take care of local roads before expanding
I have lived in Lake County for over 30 years. The extension of Route 53 has been an issue all of this time and more. This is my question, how much money has been spent on all of the surveys, studies, contracts with administrators, topical meetings of governments and informational meetings for the public?
The total cost must be astronomical and even the Daily Herald probably can't find the answer to that question. What if that money had been used instead on existing roads?dIn our neighborhood today, the existing state and county roads are in poor shape and need to be widened or resurfaced. Don't they have to be widened anyway to handle the increased traffic from all the improvements the extension is supposed to bring?
Please, do the local work first, then evaluate the next step. Maybe it isn't even the extension of Route 53. New economic times, means new and less costly solutions.
Politics have played a huge role in this issue. What is the real the political issue here? Is it really so the Tollway Authority can expand its power? The real issue should be for the good of the people.
Please, stop the nonsense.
