Utah matches win total from last season, beats WSU 73-71

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Danielle Rodriguez made a go-ahead layup with 38 seconds left to help Utah beat Washington State 73-71 on Saturday night for the Utes' eighth straight win at home.

Tanaeya Boclair made 1 of 2 free throws with 14 seconds left to extend Utah's lead to 73-71 and Washington State's Borislava Hristova missed an open 3-pointer from the corner before the buzzer.

Utah (9-3, 0-1 Pac-12) matched its win total from a season ago.

After trailing 41-28 at halftime, Hristova's 3-pointer and 3-point play on consecutive possessions pulled Washington State to 49-44.

Taylor Edmondson made a contested 3-pointer with 1:37 remaining in the fourth to give Washington State a 71-70 lead - its first lead of the game. The Cougars trailed by as many as 13.

Paige Crozon led the Utes with 15 points.

Hristova scored 23 points for Washington State (9-4, 0-2) and Edmondson tied a career-high with 17.
