McPhee leads No. 11 Stanford women over Arizona 59-34

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Brittany McPhee scored 21 points and No. 11 Stanford rolled past Arizona 59-34 in a Pac-12 opener Saturday.

McPhee posted her first 20-point game this season and the second of her career on 6-of-10 shooting including 3 of 6 from 3-point range and 6 of 8 free throws. Alanna Smith added 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 4 of 5 on 3-pointers.

Stanford (11-2), winner of five straight, ranks second in the nation in field-goal defense at 31 percent and bettered that Saturday, holding the Wildcats to 21 percent, including 1 of 10 from 3-point range. Arizona scored in the single digits in the first three quarters before scoring 12 in the final period.

Stanford took a 39-15 lead in the first half behind 14 points from McPhee as the Cardinals shot 60 percent.

Arizona (9-4), which had a two-game win streak snapped, was led by LaBrittney Jones with 11 points.
