Fire destroys roughly 100-year-old warehouse
MATTOON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a two-story central Illinois warehouse that was roughly 100 years old.
The Journal Gazette & Times-Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1Or0rxu ) the building served as the main warehouse for Standerfer Construction Inc. in Mattoon.
Firefighters were dispatched just before 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve and crews didn't leave the scene until about 1:30 p.m. Friday. Mattoon fire Chief Tony Nichols says the fire appears to have started near the garage doors. He says the roof and second floor collapsed.
No one was injured.
Construction company owner Bill Standerfer says the warehouse contained most of the tools and equipment for his business. He says the company will survive the fire.
Over the years, several companies have been housed in the building, including a food distribution company.
