South Elgin's SEBA Park wins IPRA's Outstanding Facility & Park Award

South Elgin: SEBA Park has won the Illinois Parks & Recreation Association's The Outstanding Facility & Park Award, which recognizes public agencies for their exceptional and unique achievements in design and development.

South Elgin's SEBA Park had the highest total points among the entries submitted in the division and category from across the state of Illinois.

Winners will be highlighted on large video screens during the IAPD/IPRA Conference Awards Luncheon on Friday, Jan. 29.

Awards will be presented at the IPRA business meeting at 5 p.m.

Village Administrator Steve Super was quoted as saying, "This recognition is gratifying because it represents great work in the village of South Elgin. Even more rewarding is that this award shows that well-intentioned citizens and businesses can partner with their local government to not only improve lives but to do so in an excellent fashion. I hope that everyone involved learns of this award and is proud of what they accomplished working together!"

"It is an outstanding achievement for the Village of South Elgin. I'd like to thank the South Elgin community for their support of this project as well as all those who contributed, making this project a reality," said Karen Cluchey, playground committee chairwoman. "This award will help continue the fundraising efforts to complete the final stage, and more importantly raise awareness for the need of inclusive play spaces such as SEBA Park."

SEBA Park is a regional one-of-a-kind inclusive playground with almost two acres of stimulating, thrilling, and fully accessible play. It is one of three parks within Illinois that goes beyond the confines of a standard playground; it caters to every child, with ramps moving from play station to play station with easy maneuverability, a path from the parking lot to the play area, tree houses with slides, specialized swings with safety belts alongside traditional swings, and so many more attractions children even in wheelchairs can enjoy and experience.
