Sandburg students bring holiday cheer to a family

Submitted by Mundelein School District 75

Preteens carefully compared name brands, electronics and popular toys when they shopped at a Mundelein Target recently as part of the Mundelein Carl Sandburg Middle School's Community Service Club's commitment to purchase gifts for a single family from the community who has fallen on hard times.

A little more than 20 students from the Mundelein middle school raised about $500 to make one Fremont Township family's Christmas a little more special.

The school's Community Service Club conducted bake sales and teachers donated cash so students could purchase items like clothing, toys, and baby supplies for the family they were assigned.

By checking prices closely and shopping strategically, the service club purchased a variety of gifts for each of the family members and still had enough left over for a Target gift card.
