Valparaiso developing plans for creative arts district
VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - A northwestern Indiana city is moving forward with plans to develop a downtown creative arts district.
Valparaiso City Planner Tyler Kent says the district would help spur more downtown investment and provide a geographical and organizational hub for arts, culture and innovation.
The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/1mlbRYF ) plans for the district call for a five-block area with infrastructure for pedestrians, bicyclists and amenities such as quality lighting, street furniture, free Wi-Fi and public art. A pedestrian connection would run between Valparaiso University and the district as well as the greater downtown area.
Kent says daily creative offerings would include theatrical performances, museum exhibitions, an artists' studio, gallery activities, arts, crafts classes, live music and interactive art installations.
