Homeless and nonhomeless mingle at annual St. Charles Christmas brunch

More than 100 people of all ages - some homeless, others not - gathered at the Free Methodist Church in St. Charles Friday to share a potluck meal at the annual Christmas brunch hosted by Lazarus House.

Lazarus House is a nonprofit that serves homeless people at risk of becoming homeless in central Kane County.

Dozens upon dozens of dishes donated by volunteers and guests flowed through the entry doors and onto the buffet style tables - so much food that some dishes were stacked two trays high.

Grace was said and moments later everyone crowded good-naturedly into the lobby to stack their plates high with mashed potatoes, ham, macaroni and cheese and more.

As guests dined, local jazz vocalist Jacque Miller of South Elgin sang holiday songs - the fourth year she has entertained at the event.
