Gurnee cops buy gifts for military families

Gurnee police announced Wednesday the purchase of Christmas gifts for military families. For the fourth consecutive year, officers bought the Christmas presents for six military families in need through the department's Angel Tree program. Additionally, the money needed to ship the gifts was raised through an extension of No-Shave November fundraiser called Double Down December. Gurnee officers were allowed to keep their November beards through December and encouraged to make a recommended donation of $40 to the Gurnee Fraternal Order of Police Social Lodge 266. About $1,900 was raised in December.
