Prospect to meet Glenbrook South for Hardwood consolation title
Prospect's boys basketball team will meet Glenbrook South for the consolation championship of the Wheeling Hardwood Classic at 5:30 p.m. Saturday after winning its second straight game in the tournament Wednesday.
The Knights advanced by topping Buffalo Grove 64-57, while Glenbrook South eked out a 46-44 victory over Wheeling to earn its spot in the consolation title game.
Buffalo Grove took the initiative against Prospect, outscoring the Knights 15-7 in the first quarter and taking a 31-27 lead by the half. After three quarters, the Bison still led, 49-42.
But the Knights (7-5) produced a 22-8 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Prospect's Frankie Mack led all scorers with 25 points, which included a 5-for-8 effort from 3-point range. Antonio Gardner contributed 12 points and had a team-high 4 assists, and David Swedura finished with 11 points and 4 steals.
Colin Calcagno made four 3s and finished with 12 points to lead Buffalo Grove (4-8). Colin Dekorsi made a pair of 3s and finished with 10 points, and Jimmy Trieb had 8.
Patrick Szuba paced Prospect in rebounding with 10 and Mac Camardo had 8 for BG.
Vernon Hills picked up a 58-37 victory over Dundee-Crown, and Streamwood also earned its first tournament win by topping Maine West 56-37.
Jack Framke was Maine West's top scorer with 13 points, and Joey O'Halloran scored a game-best 19 for Streamwood.
Vernon Hills will face Streamwood at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and Dundee-Crown and Maine West get the final day of the tournament started with a 9 a.m. tipoff.
