Keefe, Weis lead balanced win for Libertyville

Claire Keefe and Riley Weis both scored 13 points to help Libertyville's girls basketball team get off to a winning start in Mundelein tournament play.

The Wildcats held Streamwood to 1 point in the fourth quarter and won 55-28.

Sarah Pavelske scored 9 points and Maggie O'Sullivan had 6 for Libertyville (5-7), which was also stingy defensively in the second quarter with just 5 points allowed.

Weis had three 3-pointers and O'Sullivan made a pair. Coach Greg Pedersen was pleased to see a balanced offensive output.

"It's great to have nine people in the scoring column," he said.

McHenry 50, Wauconda 46: Katie Rossetti (20 points) and Corrina Vaughan (16) led the Bulldogs in tournament play at Richmond in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic, but a late push by Wauconda (8-2) came up short.

The Bulldogs held a 24-16 lead at the half before McHenry went in front by outscoring Wauconda 20-8 in the third quarter.

"Katie Rossetti and Corrina Vaughan played almost the entire game, providing us our offense, and Marissa Miller played a heck of a game defensively to spark the fourth-quarter comeback and give a chance at the game," said Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis.

"We played a good first half," said Lakes coach Brian Phelan. "Third quarter placed us behind a bit, but very pleased with our effort to end the game. We have good group of girls who continue to improve day and day out."

Lakes meets Wauconda at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the third-place game.
