The Willows Academy Celebrates Christmas in a Big Way!

At The Willows Academy in Des Plaines, Christmas is celebrated with a family spirit. The season kicks off with a Christmas concert, showcasing the talent of students in grades 6-12. Families gather to hear the musical performances of the school's three choirs: middle school choir, high school choir, and the school's most elite choir, the Chamber Choir. Also featured in the concert are handbell choirs of each grade level and the multiple grade-level Ensemble.

The cherished 40-year tradition of Kris Kringle begins the second week of December. Every student and faculty member draws the name of another, and each day a small gift is left in the stocking of one's Kris Kringle along with an affectionate note or a creative clue. During the stressful end of semester when exams are approaching, Kris Kringle provides some light-hearted fun that teenagers need. Kris Kringle week culminates with an all school Christmas party, complete with decorations, music, a catered lunch, and a skit performed by the graduating class. Squeals of laughter ensue as Kris Kringle identities are revealed and final gifts are exchanged.

"One focus of our mission at The Willows," says Jeanne Petros, Director of Operations, "is to make each person feel valued and respected. The Kris Kringle tradition helps to foster thoughtfulness and generosity in the students and the adults. Most are more excited about giving than receiving."
