Mobley, Kaye lead the way for Grant
James Mobley had 14 points and Andy Kaye had 12 points to lead Grant's boys basketball team to a 61-47 victory over Cary-Grove in Jacobs tournament play on Saturday.
Ben Kusiak and John Kerr each finished with 9 points for the Bulldogs.
Barrington 60, Lakes 40: Kyle Rohr had 17 points, including three 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough for Lakes at the Jacobs tournament.
Rohr was the only Lakes player to reach double-figures. Teammate Michael Behrendt finished with 9 points, all on 3-pointers.
Joliet Catholic 71, Carmel 61: On Friday night, the Corsairs lost their East Suburban Catholic Conference road game, despite C.J. Duff's 16 points and Shareif Bailey's 15.
Matt Stephens had 10 points for Carmel (4-5, 0-2), which received two 3-pointers apiece from Stephens, Bailey and Rondel Jamison (6 points). Call-up Lucas Galdoni had 7 points for the Corsairs.
North Boone 54, Wauconda 46: Kyle Drobnik scored 14 points and teammate Bryan Nee had 12, all on 3-pointers, but the Bulldogs dropped their tournament matchup at Marengo.
Benet 58, Conant 38: Obviously, Benet did not enjoy its long, heartbreaking loss Friday night in Chicago Heights, but Saturday's opposing coach also did not like that outcome.
Conant coach Tom McCormack would rather the Redwings had entered Saturday's big nonconference showdown off a win, instead of maybe a little extra inspired. If the Redwings were at all tired after the double-overtime loss to Marian Catholic, they did not show it at all in an impressive 58-38 win in a game that featured a pair of teams that started night at 7-1.
Six Benet players knocked down 3-pointers led by Dan Sobolewski's trio of 3s and a game-high 15 points. The home team had just 2 turnovers on the night, contained the Cougars' 6-foot-8 twin towers despite a height disadvantage and played superb on both ends of the court.
"They had (six) different guys hits 3s and we felt like we were chasing them around all night long," McCormack said after his team's seven-game winning streak came to an end. "I wasn't real happy when I saw that they had lost last night. We know what kind of pride they have."
