Caudle connects for 22 in Vernon Hills' OT victory

Freshman forward Kayla Caudle scored a season-high 22 points, as Vernon Hills' girls basketball team knocked off Providence Catholic 65-54 in overtime at Benet Academy on Friday night.

Caudle sank 10 of 17 shots in the tournament game, scoring 5 points in OT. Danielle Comitor, who made 6 of 8 free throws in the extra session and sank two 3-pointers in the game, finished with a season-best 14 points.

Vernon Hills (7-6) outscored Providence 13-2 in OT after the game was tied 52-52 at the end of regulation.

Wauconda 48, Rockford Jefferson 34: At Richmond-Burton, Katie Rossetti scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, as the Bulldogs opened the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic with a victory.

Sophomore guard Michaela Kimbell added a season-high 12 points, sinking four 3-pointers, for Wauconda (8-1). Corrina Vaughan had 8 points and 5 steals for the Bulldogs, who led 13-6 after one quarter, 32-12 at halftime and 44-20 after three.

Lakes 43, Crystal Lake South 41: At Richmond-Burton, the Eagles let a nine-point lead slip away but still got a victory in their opening game of the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Shannon Hurlbut hit a game-ending layup to help Lakes move to 5-4 overall.

"Great team win tonight,"said coach Brian Phelan, whose Eagles led 23-17 at halftime and 33-26 after three quarters.

Izzy Quaranta had 11 points and 4 rebounds for Lakes, while Ellie Haviland added 10 points. Hurlbut and Julia Deferville (6 rebounds) each finished with 6 points.

Crystal Lake South fell to 7-4.

Lake Zurich 44, Libertyville 40: Sophomore forward McKenna Zobel scored 18 points, and the Bears pulled out a road win in North Suburban Lake action.

Abby Pirron added 13 points for Lake Zurich (5-6, 3-2).

Libertyville (4-7, 3-2) received a season-high 20 points from Riley Weis, who knocked down four 3-pointers. Claire Keefe had 10 points for the Wildcats.

Prairie Ridge 52, Grayslake North 48: The Knights lost to fall to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the Fox Valley Fox.
