St. Theresa School Girl Scout Troops Sing Carols To St. Joseph's Residents

St. Theresa School in Palatine has been busy with many good deeds in preparation for the Christmas holiday. One of them included a trip to St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly on Northwest Highway in Palatine. Together with their Scout leaders, the kindergarten daisies and the second grade brownie troops dressed in their school uniforms, scout vests, and rain-deer antlers. The girls traveled from room to room singing joyful Christmas carols. "It is a good deed to make others happy, especially at Christmas time" said second grader, Claire D'Amico.

St. Theresa students have a keen sense of giving back to the community and have many opportunities to do so. Some examples in addition to visiting nursing homes include: senior citizens luncheon, preparing packages for military personnel, collecting food for Christmas baskets, the walk for the Preservation for Human Dignity (PHD), Feed my Starving Children, and many more.

As a community of learners with shared values, St. Theresa School believes that a commitment to service exemplifies faith and knowledge. Students engage in service projects that encourage interaction, perspective, compassion, problem solving, and faith in a socially responsible action that affects positive change. "Acts of kindness in and around our community forms deeper bonds with each other, which is why we have a strong family-like school community," said Miss Mary Keenley, school principal.

St. Theresa School has been teaching children in the Palatine area for over 60 years. The school offers programs from morning and all-day preschool and kindergarten through 8th grade.
