Lincolnshire firm gains LEED green building certification

LINCOLNSHIRE - Van Vlissingen and Company announced that its 300 Knightsbridge Parkway office building has been awarded LEED Silver certification. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the foremost program for buildings, homes, and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Van Vlissingen and Company, headquartered in Lincolnshire, has developed over five million square feet of office and industrial buildings in its 137 year history. 300 Knightsbridge Parkway joins other LEED certified properties of distinction in the developer's portfolio in Lincolnshire Corporate Center, The Corporate Woods in Vernon Hills and The Corporate Grove in Buffalo Grove. Most recently, 300 Tower Parkway of Lincolnshire and 101 Corporate Woods Parkway of Vernon Hills qualified for this elite recognition.

• 300 Knightsbridge Parkway is a five story, brick building with a variety of spaces available for occupancy ranging from individual offices to 43,768 square feet. The building is located on a lushly landscaped site with abundant parking adjacent to miles of walking trails and numerous amenities such as restaurants, hotels, a day care center and public transportation connections. Nearby is the Lincolnshire Commons Shopping Center featuring the Cheesecake Factory, restaurants, and shopping.

• 300 Knightsbridge Parkway achieved LEED Silver for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Some of the sustainable and eco-friendly features of the building include efficient plumbing fixtures that use 12 percent less water than the national standard, a low-impact hardscape and landscape maintenance program for cleaning and maintaining the exterior of the building, retro commissioning and completing a Level 1 Energy Audit which will save an estimated 6,886 kWh of energy annually, and a comprehensive lamp recycling program which will reduce the amount of hazardous material sent to the landfill.

300 Knightsbridge Parkway has implemented a Healthy High Performing Green Cleaning Program to reduce the exposure of building occupants and maintenance personnel to potentially hazardous chemical biological and particulate contaminants which adversely affect air quality, human health, building finishes, building systems and the environment. Finally, 300 Knightsbridge has an ENERGY STAR score of 81 which means it is in the top 19th percentile of energy efficient buildings in the United States.

"Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council. "The 300 Knightsbridge Parkway building efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come."
