Funeral set for firefighter who fell down elevator shaft
CHICAGO (AP) - Funeral services will be held this week for a Chicago firefighter who died after falling down an elevator shaft while battling a warehouse fire.
Chicago fire officials say visitation for 42-year-old Daniel Capuano is Thursday afternoon at St. Rita High School chapel. The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at the same Chicago chapel.
The 15-year department veteran fell Monday as he searched for people and the fire's source. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
City Building Department officials say the removal of the warehouse' elevator was underway without authorization.
The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/1RnqzeA ) city attorneys moved Tuesday to have the building demolished, filing an emergency motion in Cook County court alleging safety issues.
The Cook County state's attorney's office is reviewing facts to determine whether prosecution could be warranted.
