Libertyville's big run falls short against Zion-Benton

Caroline Frea finished with 15 points and also had 15 rebounds, but visiting Libertyville came up short 60-52 against Zion-Benton on Tuesday in North Suburban Conference Lake Division girls basketball.

The Wildcats finished the game with a 21-point fourth quarter but couldn't quite catch the Zee-Bees.

"This was a game of runs," said Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen. "They had a good one in the third quarter. We responded in the fourth but fell short."

Claire Keefe also had 15 points (with a 9-for-14 effort at the foul line) along with 6 rebounds for Libertyville. Riley Weis finished with 13 points and had her team's only 3-pointer.

The Wildcats (4-6, 3-1) dropped their first NSC Lake game of the season.

Stevenson 37, Palatine 20: Ashley Richardson made three 3s and finished with a game-high 12 points to help Stevenson pick up a nonconference victory at Palatine.

The Patriots improved to 8-2 under first-year coach Ashley Graham, winning their seventh straight and establishing a new low in points allowed to an opponent this season.

Jessica Burke hit a pair of 3s and scored 9 points for the Patriots, and Katie Steffens finished with 8.

Palatine (4-7) was led in scoring by freshman guard Elana Porrata, who made a 3 and finished with 7 points.

North Suburban Prairie Division Girls Basketball @ North Chicago

Vernon Hills 65, North Chicago 7: The visiting Cougars cruised in North Suburban Prairie action.

Becky Bahlmann had 11 points and 5 rebounds for Vernon Hills (5-6, 2-3), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Freshmen Kayla Caudle (5 rebounds) and Dakiya Daniels each scored 8 points for the Cougars.

Wauconda 41, Round Lake 30: Corrina Vaughan scored a game-high 17 points and added 5 steals, as the Bulldogs improved to 7-1 and 2-1 in the North Suburban Prairie.

Freshman Allie Tylka added 8 points for Wauconda.

Round Lake (1-8, 0-4) was led by Alesia Jimdar's 11 points.
